NASO and OMHA Referee School Assistance Program

Who can apply for assistance?

Any junior official in their second or third year of officiating, as a member of the Guelph Hockey Referees Association, can apply. Any officials who have attended the school in previous years are not eligible. The applicant must be a member in good standing and have had no disciplinary action imposed on them in the season prior to applying.

In addition any person who has been a member of the GHRA Timekeepers staff for two years and would like to become an on ice official can apply for assistance to attend the OMHA Referee School. The applicant must be a member in good standing and have had no disciplinary action imposed on them in the season prior to applying.

How do you apply?

Each interested official can forward a request, prior to applying for the school, to any member of the Executive either in writing or by email. The official must put into writing their reasons for wanting to go to the school, what they hope to gain from the school and what their long-term officiating goals are. The Executive will discuss all requests to determine which officials are selected to receive the assistance. The official will be informed whether or not they are to receive money from the program prior to registering for the school.

How much of the cost for each school will be covered?

NASO - 50% of the total cost for the school will be covered through the assistance program.
OMHA Referee School – cost above the cost for a regular certification clinic

Yearly Review

The Executive will review these programs each year to determine whether the amount of assistance and/or the number of officials, should be adjusted. This review will take place before the budget for the upcoming season is determined so it can be included. Presently these programs have been set-up to assist two GHRA members.
